Increase in colonic PRopionate as a method of prEVENTing weight gain in young adults
Design and Objective
This is a randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial to investigate the impact of Inulin Propionate Ester (IPE) on weight gain prevention in young adults at high risk of weight gain. 270 participants will be randomised to either IPE or Inulin-control for 12 months. The trial will be conducted at two UK participating sites; Imperial College London and University of Glasgow.
Key inclusion criteria
20-35 years old BMI of 24-27kg/m2 if South Asian ethnicity or 25-30kg/m2 if non-South Asian At least one of the following: - weight gain of 2kg over the last 12 months - low physical activity as per IPAQ (questionnaire) - <2 servings of fruit and vegetables per day - >1 sugary drink per day On stable medication at screening
